The Phenomenon of “300”

How do you explain the runaway success of a film that has no highly paid stars, doesn’t hew to a politically correct story line and has smashed all box office records upon its opening last week?
The stunning success of the film 300, which depicts the heroic last-man stand of the Spartans upon the plains of Thermoplae, beating back a vastly superior Persian force may lie in its simplicity.
There are good guys and bad guys in this movie and the movie makes no pretense in distinguishing the two.
The film is a refreshing change from much of the PC pabulum that infects current films out of Hollywood — particularly films that try to address the War on Terror in a value-neutral manner.
There are lessons to be learned by Hollywood moguls. Will they listen?
