For the Clintons, old habits die hard. ABC News reports that yesterday, at a campaign stop in Indiana, Bill Clinton told the crowd that in 1975, fresh out of law school, Hillary had tried to join the Army. Remember, this is the same woman who gave the commencement address at her Wellesley College graduation. And, immediately after Yale law school, we are to accept as true the proposition that her first choice for a career was to join the Army.
Didn't Bill get the campaign memo stating that it probably wouldn't be a good idea to raise a new fib so close in time to the Tuzla whopper? His sense of timing with this latest whooper puts to the lie the proposition that he is the greatest politician of his generation. Given his predilection for prevarication, I find it laughable, that to this day, many cable news commentators continue to insist that, if used in the right manner, Bill will be an asset to Hillary. He will be a great asset to Hillary only if he is put out to pasture and is conspicuous by his absence on the campaign trail.
Yet, who can blame them for trying what worked so well in the past. What they don't understand is that their tried and true tactics of prevarication and fabrication that served them well in the past won't fly this time with a media that doesn't want it to harm their candidate of choice, Obama.
Why do Democratic presidential nominees feel the need to insult the intelligence of ordinary voters? Hillary's insistence on maintaining the Tuzla fabrication long after incontrovertible evidences surfaced that it was a brazen lie reminds me of John Kerry's campaign theme of "Reporting For Duty." Did Kerry think that voters would forget his high profile anti-war activities and slander of our troops during his run to capture the Commander-in-chief prize? Perhaps he thought they would simply overlook or discount its significance because he was running against evil George Bush.
He spent Christmas in Cambodia; she dodged sniper fire in Bosnia. Bravo Democrats. It's always nice to see your party putting forward your best and brightest.
