Surprise: Only 26% of Americans Support Senate Immigration Bill

A recent Rasmussen poll surveying likely voters reveals that support for the Senate Immigration Bill is almost non-existent. But why should this surprise anyone? Everybody had a seat at the negotiating table: representatives of left-wing ethnocentric open borders groups (e.g., La Raza), immigration lawyers, businesses eager to maintain their supply of cheap labor. Everybody was represented and had a hand in crafting the Senate bill, everybody except the American Taxpayer who will be expected to swallow hard and foot the bill for one of the most expensive and fiscally irresponsible pieces of legislation in recent memory.
Americans uniformly across the political spectrum want enforcement and secure borders first, and potential paths to citizenship later. Despite shallow and illusory promises to the contrary, the Senate bill guarantees more of the same lax enforcement procedures that ensued upon enactment of the 1986 amnesty bill. Why do United States Senators blithely ignore the wishes of their constituents? Could this be why Congress has lower approval ratings than President George Bush? Is this what prompted House Minority leader John Boehner’s candid comment that the Senate bill is, “ a piece of s***?”
In their unprecedented rush to grant amnesty and citizenship benefits to millions of uneducated and unskilled third-world migrants, proponents of this bill have never examined the catastrophic fiscal ramifications of their legislation.
Michelle Malkin has a nice summary of some of the goodies that will be dispensed upon passage of this bill.
How much will it cost? Take a look at the Heritage Foundation’s cost analysis.
