If this is the new “get tough on Hillary” Obama, he is about six months too late in adopting his new posture. Obama painted himself into a corner with his campaign themes of the “politics of hope” and fancying himself as a “uniter, not a divider.”
What rubbish!
All adherence to this polyannaish nonsense has done is to place Obama at a strategic disadvantage; every time he criticizes Hillary, Clinton supporters simply hoist him on his own petard and say he has abandoned the politics of hope and is running a negative campaign.
As I noted before here, here and here, Hillary was extremely vulnerable on her Iraq War vote and Obama could have inflamed the party’s base by pointing out her vacillations, machinations and downright dishonesty on this important issue. Instead, shortly after he entered the race, he played the nice guy, the conciliator, the uniter…
Look what that has done for him.
It looks as if his long overdue attacks on Hillary may be too little too late.
