Barack Obama and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick: Birds of a Feather?
Obama and Deval Patrick: Separated at Birth? Indeed, there is a striking similarity between these two politicians. Most Massachusetts voters were enthralled with the prospect of electing the state’s first African-American Governor. For many, the nobility of this endeavor was a sufficient enough reason for pulling the lever for Deval — no further scrutiny of his viability or qualifications was necessary. Obama, no doubt, was viewing this from afar and may have surmised that if it worked for Deval Patrick why can’t it work for me?
The Drudge Report is breaking with a story about how Hillary is accusing Obama of lifting Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s campaign themes when he was running for the office without attribution. Deval Patrick and Barack Obama are cut from the same political cloth, and most Massachusetts residents recognize Obama’s “Yes We Can” as nothing more than Deval Patrick’s campaign slogan, “Together We Can”, warmed over. Old wine in new bottles.
Ignoring for the moment that making such a charge is indicative of the utter and sheer desperation of the Clinton campaign, how does this constitute plagiarism? Implicit with that charge is the idea Obama somehow stole or appropriated the the slogan without Patrick’s consent. Such a scenario is patently absurd on its face. Patrick knows Obama and probably suggested that he use it in his campaign. He endorsed Obama, yet Massachusetts’ Democrats voted for Hillary?
I wonder why?
Deval Patrick’s entire campaign was run on nothing more than platitudes and the electorate ate it up. Once he was elected, he made numerous blunders and his approval ratings plummeted. There was serious buyers remorse on the part of Massachusetts residents who voted for him on the strength of nothing more than his vacuous promises and vapid rhetoric.
Does Deval Patrick's campaign strategy sound familiar? Obama's use of Deval Patrick's sloganeering is intentional and is done with Patrick's blessing. How does Hillary figure this is a scandal?
