Memo to President Bush: you have no credibility on border enforcement. And, simply repeating ad nauseam your tired nostrum, that “the status quo is unacceptable,” doesn’t change this political reality, which by the way, is entirely of your own making.
Under your watch as President, illegal immigration skyrocketed, as you looked the other way while millions of Central Americans made a mockery of our country’s sovereignty — aided and abetted by your quaint notion of Southwestern hacienda humanitarianism.
Your inexcusable negligence in protecting our borders was bad enough, but to add insult to injury, you then sent out your lackey, Homeland Security Chief Michael Chernoff, to insult and accuse of racism those who don’t subscribe to your views of come one, come all as a policy that is compatible with the very concept of a nation and its cultural unity.
It should come as no surprise to you then, why most Americans believe that you cannot be trusted to secure our borders.
